Homecoming

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Anna and I arrived home on Tuesday.

It was good to get home.

The wedding was nice.  The car did very well on the trips to and from.  I’m beginning to think, however, that a GPS and a map for each state might not be a bad combination!  (I cringe as I type that hoping I don’t get an “I told you so!” from a fellow traveler I know who insists that GPS is the only way to travel!!) I would have been fine with the map for each state part.  Let’s just say, a printout from Google Maps just doesn’t cut it!!

Anyway, the wedding was beautiful and the weather was wonderful!

Now it is good to be home!

Fran should arrive home sometime after the 20th of July.  I don’t know anything else.  I can’t really even count on that.  It’s the military.  You never know anything until it has happened!  So, I’ll let you know what I know when I know it!!

Fran is serving in the same unit as this man who has paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

AUGUSTA (June 15): Maine Army National Guard Sgt. Richard K. Parker, 26, was killed in action Wednesday, June 13, while serving in Iraq. He was a member of Battery A, 1st Battalion, 152nd Field Artillery Regiment from Waterville serving with the Security Force II element in Iraq.

Sgt. Parker’s family has been notified. His home of record was Phillips.

“Sgt. Parker was well loved and greatly respected by his unit and the Maine Army National Guard,” said Gov. John Baldacci. “We’re very lucky both as a state and as a country to have people of the quality of Sgt. Parker who are willing to serve and put themselves on the front lines. I was very, very sorry to learn of this death. May God bless Sgt. Parker and his family. On behalf of everybody in Maine, I want to send my condolences to the family. We will do everything we can to honor him and his service.”

Gov. Baldacci has placed condolence calls to the family. Flags will be ordered flown at half-staff on the day of Sgt. Parker’s funeral.
