Fran’s Recent Letter to our Senator

Dear Senator Snowe,
I was very displeased to learn that you and Senator Collins decided to vote for the non-binding resolution opposing the President’s planned troop buildup.

I say this as a member of the Maine Army National Guard currently serving in “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” My fellow soldiers and I have no desire to stay here one day longer than we have to. However, to prematurely withdraw or not complete the mission correctly would be wrong. I have expressed the sentiment with others, (with much agreement,) that I hope we do it right this time.  I don’t want my kids to have to come back a generation later to clean up our mess. It is not the loss of my life I am worried about, but rather that one or all of my three sons will be sacrificed in a future war because our leaders watched the polls and made decisions for political expediency.

I know there are no easy answers, and mistakes will be made by those prosecuting the “War on Terror.” What I desire is to know that my elected representatives will support my Commander in Chief and not look for the safest, opinion-lined exit.

Sincerely,
Francis J. Simmler III, SSG, U.S. Army

Wow! Excellent letter, Fran. So well put . . . and how can they not listen to you?
Let us know if/when you get a response and what they say.

Great letter! Our family was in Washington, D.C. last month and attended the Senate debate on closure for the Iraq Resolution. What a joke, they don’t debate! I won’t go into a lot of detail but I can tell you that our eyes were opened as to what they do there. They waste our taxpayers money and time and a lot more! They all work for the cameras and not the American people. Senator Byrd is almost 90 years of age. Both of his hands shake, he uses two canes and has a personal attendant that helps him get to places. It takes him about 20 minutes to walk out of the Senate and when he reads his papers for debates, they have 20 words on the page in the largest print ever for him to read. I think it is time for him to retire

We struggle with this since we have a son, who is a Marine and we understand how you feel about subject because we feel the say way. Tyler just got home from his deployment on Feb. 7th and we are all adjusting to having him home. It is great to have him in the states for a while. Praying that you get home soon!
