Flat Daddies Unite!, originally uploaded by Midcoast Mainah.
This past weekend a bunch of us ladies and our children gathered at the Bath National Guard Armory! Where one of these events takes place, you will find any number of flat soldiers, affectionately called “Flat Daddies,” or as my friend Kathy calls hers, her “Flat Boy” (not pictured here,) since it is her son who is serving with Fran’s unit!
We had a nice event. A friend of mine came in and shared with us about doing the holidays without our spouse. She has a lot of experience in that department, and had a lot of good advice and caring thoughts for us.
Sometime I will have to post a photo and tell the story of German TV who came and interviewed a bunch of the ladies, and their children….including Anna!!

The “Flat Daddies” sounds like a creative way for all of you families to remember each other’s loved ones who are far away. I am praying for your family as you enter the holiday season without Fran. We are praying for you
also Fran, as you are so far away from all those you love so dearly.

I absolutely love this idea! Hmm, our choir used to joke about doing this and you actually did - but obviously for different reasons. I hope they brought some comfort to you and the others at the Guard house. Thanksgiving definitely had a new meaning to us all this year - and did we ever count our blessings!
